6 Steps to Winter Training at Home

As winter approaches, you’re probably not going to be able to go for a run as much or even get outside to play some sport and this could have a significant effect on your fitness levels. This is the one time of the year when, for most people, it becomes extraordinarily hard to get fit and actually maintain fitness levels, and to make matters worse, this is also the time of the year when most people eat a bit more than they should. So, to help you through winter wihtout packing on some extra pounds, here are 6 tips that are sure to work.

  1. Get a treadmill

If you have enough space and can afford a treadmill, then you should definitely consider getting one in your home. With a treadmill at home, you can easily keep up your aerobic endurance by running as much as you would like to.

  1. Circuit training

Training

Circuit training is one very smart way to improve or maintain cardiovascular fitness without the need to step outside your home. In circuit training, you perform a series of exercises that target different, major limbs in the body consecutively and without rest in between individual sets(you may rest in between cycles).

One of the really great things about circuit training is that traditional strength training exercises such as push-ups and squats can be turned into a cardio workout by including them in a circuit training routine.

  1. Tabata Training

Training

Tabata training is a high-intensity training technique that is gaining increasing popularity in the fitness world. Tabata training protocol, involves training with the use of a precise 20-second intense workout-10 second rest pattern, over a period of 4 minutes. The result of this unusual training pattern is remarkably high endurance and explosive power gains that significantly outstrip those of other cardio training techniques.

  1. Shadow Boxing

If you have any interest in boxing, this might be a good idea for a winter workout. Shadow boxing—literally punching the air, when done with any intensity, gives a good cardio workout, and works your arms and core as well. Just 15 minutes of shadow boxing is sure to leave you exhausted and panting for breath.

  1. Burpees

training

Burpees are pretty much the total body workout and you can do them at home, school, work or anywhere you find yourself with a few yeards of space. To do a burpee, you stand with your feet shoulder width apart, squat down, then do a push-up, jump up to your feet and then do a jumping jack. Sounds intense? That’s because it is.

Conclusion

There aren’t so many things that you could realistically do to lose weight and maintain your fitness gains during the winter, but these five winter workout tips are perfect ways to stave of any unwanted fat and keep your  fitness levels up.
