7 Sneaky Ways To Motivate Yourself For Regular Exercise

Deciding to start a fitness program -and starting it is easy. Sticking to it is the hard part. It is the norm for a lot of people start a fitness or weight-loss program with an overdose of motivation, dedication, determination and willpower but start slacking up or just quit when things get tough. Motivation is the key to a successful fitness program. Here’s a few sneaky ways you could motivate yourself for a successful fitness or weight-loss program.

Exercise

1.Set up goals.

This is the number one motivation- booster out there. Don’t just set them up, write them down and remind yourself of them everyday. This would give you a clear and concrete idea of what exactly you’re aiming for. It is important to categorize your goals into short-term and long-term goals. Short term are the goals you want to achieve in a few weeks/a month. For example, the amount of pounds you want in a week. Long-term goals are ones set up for the achievements you want to make in the long run, for example, your goal weight or dress size.

3.Seek Support

From Friends, family, spouse, partner, neighbor, whoever’s willing to give it. These people will be your support system, the people cheering you on to go on when things get tough.

4.Surround yourself with inspiration

Get pictures of fit, toned people or motivational quotes and post it everywhere, your bedroom wall, on the fridge door, in your car, anywhere. This way, you’ll have sources of inspiration all around you so it won’t be very easy to lose your motivation. You could also join a fitness group. The energy and competition in the group could also motivate you to keep at it.

5.Track your progress

This does a lot for motivation. In the initial phase of a fitness program, your fitness levels are usually low which means that you will have low endurance so you will get get tired faster. The level of endurance increases gradually with consistent exercise and then you’ll be able to run those six miles nonstop.

6.Make it fun

Most people tend to get wrapped up in the dynamics of a fitness program and forget to enjoy it. You don’t always have to abide by all the strict rules or guidelines. You can choose to do a sport that you enjoy instead of squats or push ups, the important thing is that it gets you moving and your pumping faster..

7.Hold yourself accountable

Skip the excuses. It was not the weather that kept you from working out, nor was it your busy schedule. If you were determined and dedicated enough, you would’ve done it. Don’t blame anyone or anything but yourself when you don’t reach your goal . Look at what you’re doing and how you could’ve done it better.

8.Eat Properly

Yes, you should minimize calorie intake so you’ll burn more calories than you’re consuming but that does not mean you should completely cut out fatty or calorie-dense foods. Just as long as you’re making up for it with exercise, you’re good to go. Also make sure you’re eating a balanced diet because your body will need essential nutrients to burn calories the healthy way.

Other minor sources of motivation are reading other people’s success stories about how they went about their fitness program and what they achieved, rewarding yourself as you progress or finding yourself an emotional trigger, for example, thinking about people who put you down because of your weight could motivate you.
