Why you Should Teach your Kids to Swim Early

How early is too early for kids to learn how to swim? There’s no real scientific answer to this question but we recommend that you start them off as early as possible. You might be surprised to find out that babies as young as six months old, already have the capability to learn to float on their backs so this might not be a bad again time to enroll them for proper swimming lessons with a qualified infant instructor.

Kids aren’t born with a fear of water so teaching them how to swim before environmental influences have a chance to cultivate that fear is a wise idea. On the other hand, if from a very early age, your children are taught the basics of swimming and water survival, they would be able to take care of themselves even if an accident occurs and you may have some peace of mind, whenever they are around a body of water.

An increasing number of teenagers are obese these days, but you can prevent obesity in your child by encouraging them to take up exercise from as early an age as possible. Swimming is a good choice for exercise; it is great for burning calories, toning muscles and is gentle on the joints which is very important for young children.

Exercise has also been proven to have a long-term developmental effect on the brain so encouraging your child to do some sports during their developmental stages is a good way to aid their cognitive development.

Here’s a caveat though, learning how to swim from an early age might not necessarily turn your child into the next Michael Phelps so don’t develop any unreasonably high expectations.
