5 Tips on Weight Gain for Super Skinny People

These days the internet seems like it’s practically awash with articles on weight loss and adverts for weight loss products, so much that you could be forgiven for not realizing that not everyone with weight issues is struggling with weight loss. In fact there are loads of people who are actually trying to gain weight just as much as the average weight loss fanatic is trying to lose theirs. If this is you, then you are in the right place and this article just for you, the super skinny guy or girl who has given up on ever gaining weight.

For a lot of skinny people, the issue is having a fast metabolism which pretty much means that gaining weight is always going to be an uphill task. But there are ways to beat this challenge and, ironically, the fastest and most effective tools for gaining weight are really the same for losing weight: nutrition and exercise. However, weight gain is not as straight forward as merely eating a lot and hitting the gym regularly although these are key factors. What’s more important is that you eat the right foods and do the right kind of exercies for best results.

Read on to find out how these two factors influence your weight gain and what other factors might come into the mix.

1. Slow Down Your Metabolism

Reduce weight

Often, like I said earlier, the biggest challenge for most people with slow weight gain is having a fast metabolism. This means that your body goes through the digestion process very fast and burns up more calories. The good news is you can actually control your metabolism and cause it to either increase or decrease over time. What you eat and  the way you exercise will determine to an extent, how fast or slow your metabolism will be. Certain foods, particularly those with  high fat content like yoghurt and some other dairy products, naturally take longer to digest which would obviously slow the body’s metabolism process. On the other hand, fruits and vegetables with high water content like celery, apples or watermelon will require less calories for digestion.

2. Eat More (No Brainer)

Eat more

You’ve got to eat more in order to gain more weight. It’s a rather basic point and obviously makes a lot of sense but its worth emphasizing it here as even a single skipped meal could have a major impact on weight gain. Aside from eating a regular three meals per day, you could also have a couple of snacks in between. The more you eat, the more weight you gain.

Be careful what you eat though. I have seen some sites offer advice to people with fast metabolism rates, advising them to eat any and everything they can eat. I would advise you to be much more selective as there are certain foods that will yield increased body mass but are really not healthy for you in other ways.

3. Carb Up

Carbohydrates are high energy food and are needed by the body for that purpose. When the energy supplied by carbohydrates is not completely consumed by your body, the excess is stored as fat and you gain weight. More importantly, if your body does not gain the energy it needs from carbodhydrates in the food you eat, it may start to convert muscles into glucose which is obviously going to be extremely counter-productive for weight gain.

4. Do Resistance Training Instead of Aerobics

Every kind of training and exercise will speed up your metaboism and burn calories so this one can be tricky but if you get it right it will yield great results. You have to avoid aerobic exercises like running and instead focus on resistance training exercises to build strength and muscle mass. Resistance training is a great choice because although it will burn calories, it will also help you build muscle mass and will help you gain weight. On the other hand, gaining more muscles will also speed your metabolisms so you have to make sure that your diet plan matches your calorie requirments, to avoid burning too many calories without replacing them.

5. Nutritional Supplements (Weight gainers)

Weight gainers are a type of nutritional supplement that help people gain weight. Even after following the tips outlined here, dependign on your genetic make up and some other factors, you might still need some “extra” help. Weight gainers could help you pack on some extra pounds so if you can afford them, you should get some.

Caveat: steer clear of steriods!

Conclusion

Gaining weight is hard for a lot of people but you can achieve your goals by applying these tips with a little dedication and hard work. Once you start gaining weight, remember that you can easily lose your gains if you discontinue following the tips outlined here. Good luck!
