How To Protect Yourself from Skin Cancer in the UAE?

Sun

Not only is the Sun the object that we human beings have based our lives around since the beginning of time, it is also a friendly entity that enhances our day-to-day enjoyment. And, fortunately for those living in Dubai, the Sun’s light is something that the Middle East has an abundance of.

The sun is causing both hazardous environments that are inhospitable for people in some parts of the world, and physical ailments to those that find themselves unprepared to deal with heat and radiation. Residents in the UAE must be mindful of the Sun to protect themselves and their families from the dangers it creates.

Skin cancer in UAE

In recent years, doctors have warned of an increased risk of skin cancer in the UAE. Due to changes in people’s lifestyles, risk factors contributing to skin cancer have risen substantially. Such factors include people spending more time outdoors, making frequent trips to the tanning salon, and vacationing in spots close to the equator.  In fact, beyond just skin cancer, recent health reports show vastly more incidences of all types of cancer occur in expatriates when compared to natives in the UAE, with expats accounting for a majority of cases of every type of cancer measured.

Fortunately, skin cancer is among the most treatable kinds of cancer; with one of lowest mortality rates among the various cancers that a person could have. The UAE in particular has an extremely low incidence of mortality caused by skin cancers versus the rest of the world.xbeach_1600_1200.jpg.pagesp

Early detection

What should you be looking out for?

Those with moles, freckles or other skin marks should be especially vigilant in monitoring for changes to such features. Additionally, people with a family history of skin cancer are more likely to develop it themselves, so they should be on the lookout for skin discoloration, unusual freckles, coarse and fine wrinkles, benign tumors, cancerous and precancerous lesions, and dilation of small blood vessels under the skin.

Managing your costs

Dubai itself does have a number of clinics and medical facilities that provide mole mapping service, so it’s easy to get the preventive care that you need if you feel that you are at risk. The trick is making sure that you don’t have to pay through the nose to ensure that you can detect skin cancer as early as possible.
