5 Swimming Games for Kids

A lot of children have a fear of water and this prevents them from learning how to swim well. We have thought about this problem and we think that a way to overcome this is to get children to enjoy being in the water by getting them to play fun games in the pool which will help them practice their swimming skills and become much more comfortable in the water. Swimming games could also come in handy when you’re just looking to have fun on an outing or as a family.

Treasure Hunt

Swimming treasure hunt

Most people who’ve ever spent much time in a pool have played this one, and the concept is really simply. You toss a coin or other “treasure” into the pool and then it the kids jump in to search for it. The object you toss into the pool has to be tiny though and it will usually take quite a while before some sharp eye spots it. This game is a good way to get kids naturally learning how to dive and swim underwater.

Invisible Bottle

Invisible bottle

The invisible bottle game is much like underwater treasure hunt but with a few differences. In invisible bottle, you fill up a small transparent or translucent plastic bottle with pool water, so that that it practically disappears when you put it in the pool. You toss it into the pool while all the kids are standing outside with their backs turned to the pool (so they don’t see where you tossed the bottle). Once the kids hear the bottle make a splashing sound, they can then jump in and begin to search for it. Obviously, the winner is the person who finds the bottle first.

Submarine Race

The submarine race is pretty much an underwater swimming race. The kids start off at one side of the pol and race over to the other side. It’s pretty straight forward but still fun as the kids try to beat each other. This game helps kids and adults too, improve their underwater swimming technique and also train their lungs. To make the game more interesting, you could make it a relay race with multiple teams.

Octopus

Swimming games

To play octopus in the pool, have one person stand in the middle of the pool with the other players standing at one side of it. The person in the middle is the “Octopus” and will try to tag the other players as they move from one side of the pool to the other in rounds. Once a person is successfully tagged, they have to stand in the middle of the pool and become a part of the octopus by holding hands with the original octopus and continue trying to tag other people once the next round starts. The more people get tagged, the more the group of players in the center begin to look like an actual octopus, thus the name. This is a really fun game and we can guarantee your kids will love playing this Octopus.

Noodle Joust

Swimming

You will need some gear such as inflatable rafts and pool noodles to play this extremely fun game. Kids will mount inflatable rafts and try to knock each other off with pool noodles. Like most pool games it’s very simple and easy to play, but still very much fun.

Conclusion

There are other fun games kids can play in water and you can even get creative and invent your own. Just remember that water can be dangerous and there should be a qualified life guard on duty at all times to ensure the kid’s safety.
