3 Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Astigmatism is an optical defect that is caused by an irregular shaped cornea or lens or inherited, and it is characterized by blurred vision. Sometimes, this eye defect worsens whenever there is an injury to the neck or head. Most people suffering from this optical defect, do not know how effective eye exercises are to the healing process of this condition. We are quite familiar with surgery or getting stronger eyeglasses to correct it. The third option, eye exercises, which is often underestimated or rather, hardly talked about, is what we’d be sharing with you below.

1.  Neck exercise

  Neck exercise

Neck stretching exercise helps greatly to improve the sight. Stand upright, then tilt your head slowly from left to right, then move forward and backward. Keep moving your neck in all sides for as long as you can, and repeat it daily. You can also turn your head, and try to look past each of your shoulders, while you do this exercise. Keep rotating neck, and feel the stretch on the muscles.
You might be wondering how exercising the neck would correlate with a good vision. Some arteries in the neck work constantly, to supply blood flow to the head and eyes, and if the neck is stiffened, the arteries won’t work to supply blood as it should. Thus, the eyes are likely to lack enough nourishment.

2. Fun with paper

This exercise, like its name implies, is fun and it aims at strengthening peripheral vision. You will need a long piece of paper, so get one, and ensure it is long enough to cover your eyes.
Attach the paper to your forehead, just above the bridge of your nose with a piece of tape; the paper should only be blocking your forward vision and no vision from the corners of your eyes. Now, raise one hand up to the side of each eye, at the exact point the paper stops. Since your side vision isn’t limited, try to see each finger with each corresponding eye; do one at a time and keep alternating. Try not to move your head while you do this exercise and you can keep doing it as long as you can. This helps to strengthen your eyes and reduce bad or blurred vision.

3. Eye yoga

Eye yoga

Eye yoga is a kind of exercise that strengthens eye muscles, sharpens focus, and improves vision. Stand upright, and grab a seat, with legs crossed. Now, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and meditate with a conscious feeling of your eyes. Then, begin to tilt your eyeballs slowly, for some seconds or few minutes, after which you can and relax them.
You can also move your eyeballs all round; up, down, left, and right. Do this consistently for a more productive effect.

Conclusion

To make the healing process of astigmatism faster, try to get used to these exercises, and do them on a daily basis. The interesting thing about these exercises is that it doesn’t require so much time and energy, and can be done anywhere and at anytime.
