6 Ways To Boost Up Metabolism

Have you ever felt like you have a very slow metabolism? If you have, then this article is just for you. Metabolism is a set of chemical processes that occurs to enable living being sustain processes that are essential for life.

Having a sluggish metabolism means that all other activities going on in your body would happen at a slower rate. Anyone in such condition can’t be living a healthy life.

How fast your body burns calories depends on different things: for example, men burn more calories than women, even while at rest, and after 40, metabolism tends to slow down. These are natural and can’t be changed. However, there are still some other ways to improve metabolism.

1. Drink enough water

The body needs sufficient water to keep it hydrated. When the body is dehydrated, metabolism may slow down.

Studies have observed that adults who drank up to eight glasses of water daily, burned more calories compared to those who drank less. Take a glass of water before every meal, to keep your body hydrated. To supplement your water intake, you should eat more fruits, as they are also rich in water and help to keep the body hydrated.

2. Improve your work out

Working out helps to burn excess calories. You can take up some resistance exercises for building muscles. Usually, the human body will burn calories, even at rest, but the resting metabolic rate is much higher in people with bigger muscles, and this is why it is encouraged to build muscles for faster metabolism.

If you dislike the idea of building muscles, you can opt for aerobic exercises. They won’t build you big muscles, but will definitely help to speed up metabolism. Do more of walking, jogging, swimming, and so on.

3. Snack smart

Having longer hours between meals can slow down metabolism. A small meal or snack every 3 to 4 hours increases your metabolism, so you burn more calories over the course of a day. Several studies have also shown that people who snack regularly eat less at mealtime.

4. Brew some coffee

Coffee functions in so many ways: it helps to raise your body’s metabolic rate, increases endurance when working out and reduces fatigue.

5. Drink more green tea

Green tea is packed with caffeine and catechins. These two substances are known to speed up metabolism. Drinking about 2 to 4 cups of green tea daily, will help to burn significantly increase the amounts of calories that get burned over a short period.

6. Get more sleep

Under normal circumstances, the body will burn calories by itself, without any additional push, even when at rest. Studies have shown that people who sleep more are liable to lose more weight, compared to those who sleep less. Getting optimal amounts of sleep will help to boost metabolism, and is one healthy habit that should be encouraged.

A slow metabolism rate will slow down every other activity in the body and can lead to several health complications.
