Stretching helps to improve flexibility and agility. Regular stretching is also an effective way to prevent injury and there are actually a few more benefits that you could get from regular stretching. Here are five of the most important ways regular stretching is important for you:

1. Increases flexibility. Flexible muscles can improve your everyday activity like lifting packages, hurrying to catch a bus or train, bending over to tie your shoes or even sleeping well at night. If your bones are tight without flexibility, you find out that it is usually difficult to even bend down properly. So stretch to improve your everyday activity.

2. Stretching helps to relaxes tense muscles that often accompany stress.

3. Stretching also prepares your joints and muscles for activities and helps prevent injuries.

4. Frequent stretching allows you to maintain proper structure, and keeps your muscles from getting tight.

5. Stretching increases blood flow for your joint and can speed recovery when you have a muscle injury.

When stretching, be sure to focus on your calves, thighs, lower back, knees, neck, shoulders and those muscles you habitually use to work or play. Stretching muscles when they are cold increases your risk of injury and you should first of all warm up by walking while gently pumping your arms, or doing a favorite exercise.
Stretching does not require any fancy equipment and you can simply stretch out wherever you are, whether in your car, your home, in your office, while travelling and even in your bathroom. In a situation where you have a condition like a strained muscle, you might want to consult your doctor or your physical therapist for the appropriate way to stretch without hurting yourself.

Their role can also be really personal and if you’re going to hire one, then you want to make sure that you choose a person who can handle this responsibility. Here are 7 important things to look out for:

Referrals

When it comes to getting a personal trainer, you want to stay as far away from the bad ones as possible. People are usually very happy to recommend a god professional trainer so a lack of verifiable referrals is a huge red flag to watch out for.

Experience

You want to be sure that if you’re getting a personal trainer, you’re not going to be their Guinee pig. Even if you’re thinking of giving a fresh college graduate a chance, you should check for any professional or extra-curricular activities they may have participated in that could count as practical experience.

Professionalism

A huge part of a personal trainers work will involve them getting involved in some aspects of your private life and perhaps even forming a bond. When this happens, it is very important that your professional trainer be able to maintain their professional responsibility toward you.

Academic Qualifications

Regardless of how fit a trainer may look, or how many good referrals they may have, you should look for evidence of academic qualifications or professional training because hiring an unqualified fitness trainer will automatically put you at risk of picking up injuries and wasting your time and money. Also ports science is always generating new knowledge so even if a fitness instructor can show some proof of academic accomplishments, you should check and be sure that they are actively staying abreast of the developments in their field.

Area of Specialty

People have often very different fitness goals and fitness trainers may have differing strengths regardless of their common educational background. For example, some trainers might specialize in weight loss, while some others might specialize in building cardiovascular endurance or building muscles. You should choose a fitness trainer whose strengths match your fitness goals.

Personality

Like we keep reiterating, a personal trainer is a person that is going to spend a lot of time in your personal space; so you have to make sure that you can get along with this person. Your trainer will be your coach, motivator and guide but not everyone has the right attributes to be able to perform these roles adequately.

Personality traits that are most desirable in a fitness trainer are patience, the ability to handle irate or non-compliant customers, sociability etc.

Communication Skills

Sometimes, with exercises and some other aspects of sports science, the details can be a little complicated so you will need a fitness trainer who is capable of breaking down the big picture in a way that allows you to really grasp the essence of it, especially in instances when they can’t physically be with you, such as over the phone or in a text message. There is really no point hiring the very best fitness expert in the world if they are unable to effectively pass on their knowledge to you.

Conclusion

A good personal trainer may be able to help you achieve your fitness plans but a bad one will be a waste of money and put your health at risk; so you need to make your choice carefully. If you live in Dubai or any part of the UAE, Trainer.ae can help recommend or connect you with a trainer you can trust.

Personal training may seem like a glamorous profession, but in the end it’s based on two types of hard work:

The actual sweat you and your clients put in at the gym,

The behind-the-scenes work it takes to start a personal training business.

Step 1

Pursue a personal training certification from either a reputable, accredited local university or a nationally recognized program accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. Expect to dedicate at least six months, to a program of study.

Step 2

Register your business name through your state government. If you’re operating as a sole proprietorship, you can use your own social security number, or Employer Identification Number. If you hire employees, obtaining an EIN is obligatory.

Step 3

Register your business name with your State Revenue Agency. Note that tax and registration requirements vary from state to state. Next, obtain a business license. Although no licensing regulations exist for personal trainers, you still need a business license to legally operate as an independent business.

Step 4

Purchase liability insurance. Often, the organization that certified you may offer good prices on liability certification for personal trainers. If you train out of an established gym, they may offer some liability coverage, especially if you work as an employee. Check your contract terms carefully. Carrying your own liability insurance is a good idea, even if the gym insures you, because the gym’s insurance won’t cover you during your work outside the gym. If you decide to open your own personal training studio, you’ll need to insure the premises and equipment as well.

Step 5

Approach a gym about working as a personal trainer. Starting at a gym gives you access to plentiful equipment and a wide potential client base. You might be allowed to promote yourself by teaching seminars or making yourself available on the floor to answer questions. If you work independently of a gym in your own studio or clients’ homes, you will have to be more creative about your marketing strategies. Word of mouth promotion is one of your best tools, but before you can have satisfied clients you have to have clients, period.

Things to Consider

Pay careful attention to the training materials that dictate the scope of your practice. Your liability insurance typically won’t cover you if you step beyond that scope.

Tips to Remember

If you intend to work with specialized populations, such as pregnant women, morbidly obese individuals or elderly clients, you might need additional training beyond your personal trainer certification. Consult with your instructors, university or certifying body to determine whether additional training is necessary.

Most new personal trainers won’t have the budget for expensive television commercials. You can drum up clients by offering your services as a public speaker on fitness-related topics, distributing business cards and flyers on bulletin boards, connecting with fitness-minded social networks in your area, or contacting businesses about establishing or supporting a corporate wellness program.

If you decide to work out of clients’ homes, you can reasonably expect them to provide some fitness equipment for example, either a cardio machine or a willingness to do laps around the block to warm up. But you might have to invest in some basic items of equipment including a high-quality fabric measuring tape, skinfold calipers and small weights.

Sure, hefting weights on the gym-room floor and hitting the treadmill are popular workouts for a reason, but ask yourself:

Are you new to working out/strength training?

Do you lack daily motivation?

Do you have signs of muscular imbalances?

Do you question every machine/workout?

If you set goals and are willing to give 100 percent effort, group classes can help you succeed faster and better than you might have thought possible.

You’ll Receive Guidance From a Pro

Of course, you can always pay extra for a personal trainer, but group fitness classes can be very helpful—and the price is often included in most gym memberships. A good instructor watches all participants throughout the class to make sure their workout is safe and effective. The instructor should also have fitness training and a certification under their belt, and it’s not a bad thing to ask them about it, either. With your instructor’s guidance, and by watching their moves closely, you can often get a safer, more effective workout than you would on your own.

You Can Prevent or Correct Muscle Imbalances

Muscle imbalances can come about in many ways, from suffering an injury to simply having a more dominant side. Over time, muscular imbalances can create serious issues. Hamstring imbalances, for example, can cause tightness and pain in your lower back. Sometimes, working with machines or doing exercises that don’t challenge muscles individually can exacerbate the problem by allowing the dominant side to, well, dominate.

In a group-fitness setting, however, you won’t use machines or sit in one position the whole time. The variety of motions and positions used in most fitness classes can help stretch and strengthen each muscle individually, leading to major overall improvements.

You Can Improve Your Body Awareness and Alignment

Attending a group fitness class led by a qualified instructor is also very helpful for learning to feel how your body should move. Anything beyond the normal 9-5 office activities can start to get out of range for our muscle memory. If we’re not careful, we may be bending, reaching, twisting, and picking up objects with form bad enough to eventually hurt ourselves—without even realizing it. Of course, no one wants to injure themselves while trying to improve their fitness, which is why structured group-fitness classes can be an advantage.

Making New Friends

In group-fitness classes, you’re automatically afforded the opportunity for socialization. You’re surrounded by like-minded people with similar fitness aspirations and interests. Chatting together before and after class—whether to share tips and tricks, highlight particular hurdles, or offer congrats on progress made—quickly builds a sense of community. This can be very motivational, and it can add to your reasons to keep coming back and making progress!

You Can Banish Workout Boredom

Not only do you have the option to choose an entirely different genre of exercise on any given day, but each class also provides you with a different experience. As a bonus, is that it’s much easier and more fun to get through an hour-long workout in a class setting than it is on your own! Instructors will try to keep the music and activities fun to keep the class energy levels pumped up.

A good personal trainer can help you get slimmer and stronger just as quickly as a bad one can lighten your wallet and leave you limping along the side of the road. A well-trained fitness coach will know how to guide your strength and conditioning goals while keeping you off the injured reserve list.

Credentials First

Anyone can call him/herself a personal trainer with a few qualifications and a great body; however, educational programs are available for trainers, each requiring various coursework, workshops, testing and costly training. Investing time and money in professional credentials is, if nothing else, an indication that the personal trainer is serious about his career.

Once you determine your prospective trainer’s credentials, think about how your education might help you achieve your goals. Do you want to lose 10 lbs. by the summer, run a 10K, or simply feel better on a daily basis and improve longevity? We believe it’s easier to stay motivated when your long-term goals are related to health, as opposed to aesthetics.

Ask about your trainer’s current clientele. If you’re a 45-year-old woman, but your trainer usually works with 20-something gym models, it might not be a match made in bodybuilding heaven. Ideally, you want a trainer who relates to your particular fitness level. If you have injuries or chronic health problems, that’s even more important. Anyone can go out and beat you up. A good trainer knows how to make adjustments based on your age, health and any special health conditions.

All About Qualities

Is your trainer the strong, silent type or a no-holds-barred drill sergeant? A trainer’s means of motivating is a significant consideration. Certain styles will keep you pumped up, while others will give you a headache. The only way to know for sure is to go through an actual training session. Many trainers will give you the first session free so remember to ask.

Observe your trainer candidate in his natural habitat: the gym. Does your trainer surround himself with a quality entourage? Ideally, your trainer’s inner circle should be composed in part of medical professionals. Good trainers have longstanding relationships with competent professionals who know sports medicine, physical therapy and nutrition.

Don’t overlook likeability. You’re going to be sweating it out with your trainer at least twice a week in most cases. You’ll need to share personal information about your health and wellness. At the very least, you should enjoy this person’s company.

Reaching Results

Your trainer should start with an overall assessment of your health, including a body-fat analysis. Talk with your trainer about what you hope to accomplish, and be ready to accept frank feedback. If you commit to at least two days a week, you’ll see results in the first month. Then, be patient. Super bodies don’t evolve overnight, even for the camera-ready Hollywood types.

One of the biggest reasons people drop out from a training program is the unrealistic expectation that weight training is a silver bullet. You should look at it as one component in an overall plan for good health. Eating right, other forms of exercise and overall balance should also be part of the mix. You can’t expect to hit the gym a couple of times a week, eat whatever you want and still meet your goals.

A good trainer will continually mix up your routine and come up with new and creative ways to help you stay motivated. Don’t be shy about suggesting something you’d like to try either.

Remember, throwing money at someone to help you sculpt a better body won’t replace hard work and dedication. Half the battle is finding the right person up front, before you ever break a sweat. Working with a personal trainer should be a great experience. In the end, most trainers and experts agree: Major results boil down to the client’s determination and readiness to incorporate fitness into a healthy lifestyle for the long haul.
