Like most women living in Dubai, I was a housewife with not a lot of work to do. Before me and my husband moved here from the UK, I used to go out in the park with our young daughter and get some exercise along the way.

However, since we moved to Dubai, things changed, the lifestyle here was more sedentary, with the sun outside a constant reminder of the searing heat that discourages you from taking a step out. Initially it was fine, and since I wasn’t going out a lot, I was often wearing casual stuff around the house or when going to a nearby mall.

______________________________________________________________
Contact us on WhatsApp number: +971 56 58 30067 to lose weight in Dubai like Alana did.
______________________________________________________________

It wasn’t until a month or so in that I realized my clothes were getting tighter, but I passed it off as an unavoidable consequence of moving to Dubai, so I kept going on, until I reached the point where I weighed 175 pounds and felt like I had come too far to go back.

Losing weight to get back in shape isn’t easy…

The worst part is that it’s not like I didn’t notice when I was gaining weight…it was more of me not paying attention to it that got to me. And had one of my childhood friends not pointed it out to me bluntly, I wouldn’t have realized.

Penny, who I grew up with, is still in the UK, and we hadn’t gotten around to skyping or video chatting since I moved to Dubai. It was one day that we did, and she just saw me on the video and outright asked me what I was doing to myself.

She is very blunt, and she got right down to blaming me for letting go and not looking after myself. I had to agree with her, I had let go, so I promised to her that I will start looking for help.

That is when I searched online and found Trainer.ae, and messaged the folks there on their WhatsApp number (+971 56 58 30067) for weight loss help and hiring a personal trainer. What I really liked about these guys was the fact that they didn’t get me a trainer right away, but first, their representative discussed my goals with me and then worked with me to get me right person for the job.

It turned out that weight loss in Dubai was a hot topic because almost everyone who moved here ended up gaining weight, so it was a relief that I wasn’t the only one.

My mistake however was that I didn’t clarify to the Trainer.ae guys that I wanted a female personal trainer from Dubai and not a male one. So when I first met the guy they sent over, I had to excuse and ask for another trainer. However, they were nice enough to understand and send a female trainer to my place the next day.

Fortunately, our apartment has a large living room and it had space for working out, so my trainer advised that we start there with light exercises. My problem is that I am not a big fan of working out (don’t judge me) and I give up easy on any physical activity.

Working out at home is more comfortable than a gym.

My trainer was nice enough to understand my preferences and did not impose any exercise or workout regime. Instead, she did it all with me to motivate me and gave me quite a bit of information on weight loss the healthy way. Since she also lived in Dubai, her weight loss tips were relevant to me and I could put them into action.

We started light but we moved on to some weight and mostly cardio workouts for slow burn. Days when I was too tired or felt down, my trainer took me for walks as we discussed diet plans and meals. She gave me a lot of recipes and told me that I didn’t need to join a gym to lose weight.

The good thing about living in Dubai is that you can find quite literally anything, so cooking as per her recipes was not a problem and I moved towards a more balanced diet. After I finished my workouts I felt different – I felt elated and relieved, and that’s when I learned how to control my emotional eating.

When you put your all into a workout to achieve goals, you automatically feel responsible and less inclined to waste it all away by emotional eating. I finally felt like I was moving towards something I wanted, and as weeks went by, I could not just notice my waist dropping but I had more energy as well.

Slowly my trainer upped it and we moved towards more strenuous cardio and heavier weights. We were also working 6 days a week now instead of the initial 4 and results were faster. My trainer started giving me small treats for every 10 pounds I lost, and also encouraged me to talk to my friends and family members about my weight loss goals.

Telling them is what I feel also had a very significant effect on my weight loss because I became more committed to ensuring that I actually lost weight. Similarly, my friends also supported me a lot and were there to motivate me when I was about to lose focus and fall back into my old habits.

Even though I knew eating a more balanced diet with healthy food was good for me, it was not too easy. I was asked to give up some of the things I love, like ice cream and chocolate, at least till I started attaining my goals, but I was not trained in moderation anymore and it was hard to cut back.

A balanced diet does wonders for weight loss!

Nevertheless, I feel results are the biggest motivators. They keep you going on and keep you in the game. If you are working out and trying to lose weight in the dark, you won’t really get anywhere. When you keep track of things is when you stay passionate about progress, and that’s exactly what my trainer inculcated in me.

By the time 5 months were over, I had dropped 50 pounds and had come down to 125 pounds, with a very visible change in my body and physique. Not only did I enjoy shopping all the more, I also started getting compliments from friends and family, telling me that my hard work was paying off.

In the end however, it was about my own self of achievement and satisfaction, and I am now much more confident and in love with myself. I would like all of the women out there who have weight issues to believe that weight loss is possible, even in Dubai.

Some Tips for Weight Loss in Dubai

#1. Take the metro instead of driving

The Dubai metro is quite efficient and comfortable, especially if you invest in a gold card. Not only do you save time while traveling but you will also be getting a good walk from one station to the other.

#2. Go for early morning or late night walks/runs

The temperature in Dubai rises as the day progresses till it starts getting cooler again at night. While it’s understandable if you don’t want to go out during the day, you should try to go out for walks or runs early in the morning or late at night before bed.

#3. Try swimming instead of running

Dubai has lots of places for swimming, especially in the marina area, and it is an excellent weight loss activity to take up especially if you’re not a big fan of running and working out. I actually know a couple of ladies who wanted to lose weight in Dubai and took to swimming, and it worked for them.

#4. Hire a personal trainer

Dubai actually has some of the best personal trainers and you can easily find good male and female personal trainers to work with you and provide you a tailor-made weight loss program that works for you and has no risks of injuries.

It’s easy to say that you want to lose weight. It’s also easy to find the motivation to hit the gym regularly and choose the right foods in the beginning. After a few weeks, our motivation seems to wane and those old, unhealthy habits of yours start to creep back in. What seemed so easy at first is now difficult. You have cravings. You’re tired. You miss those social dinners with your friends and doughnuts at the office.

So many of us have fallen into this yo-yo diet and exercise trap over the years. You decide you want to lose weight, start a program, and even start to see some results and then…life gets in the way. Before you know it, you’re off your healthy living plan again. You have to choose to change your life, both when life is breezy and when things aren’t going your way.

5 Signs It’s Time to Get Serious about Weight Loss

First Sign : You keep waiting to start.
There is never a perfect time to lose weight; you’ll always have to deal with stress and work and life, and there’s no better way to get started than to jump right in today. Right this second you can start improving your health by doing something as simple as shutting down this computer and going for a short walk(but of course, read this entire article first!), choosing the stairs over the elevator or even looking up the online menu of the restaurant you’re going to tonight and ordering a healthy dish.
Take Charge:

Write down three simple things that you can do TODAY to be healthier, whether it be changing your food and choosing to drink water from now on, walking around the block once or eating two fewer bites than you normally would. You might even want to tell a friend or family member about your new goals, by sharing your goals, you’ll stay accountable and by starting small, you’ll build momentum to make more changes.

Second Sign : You can’t do the things you want to do.

Has it become impossible keeping up with your dog at the park? Can you no longer run around with your children? Does dancing with your friends or walking up a flight of stairs leave you winded? If you can no longer do what you need to do or want to do, then clearly it’s time to get serious about your health.

Focus on functionality:

Make a list of the things you want to do but can’t do comfortably right now. Weight loss isn’t just about wearing smaller pants size; it will help you live the life you want. Attend the gym or go for regular walks to improve your cardiovascular fitness, and try these exercises to help make your everyday activities easier to do. Before you know it, the pounds will drop, but more importantly, you’ll be able to do all the things you love to do.

Third Sign: Health Issues.
Being overweight or obese puts a huge strain on your body and increases your risk for many chronic health problems, including type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and stroke, metabolic syndrome, certain types of cancers, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, gallbladder disease, fatty liver disease, pregnancy complications and premature death. You can no longer treat weight-loss as an option if you’re suffering from these conditions and especially if it possibly runs in the family. It’s a necessity for you to save your own life.

Live longer and healthier:

If you do have any health issues, seek treatment and ask the doctor what types of physical activity you can do and if there are any dietary restrictions.
Fourth Sign: You give up easily.
Do you throw in the weight-loss towel after you eat a cookie or miss a single workout? Health and weight issues don’t result from one small mistake during a 24-hour period; it’s what you do day after day, time after time that really counts. You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to be consistent.

Get back on track:

Promise that you’ll be kind to yourself when you do slip up, and create a get-back-on-track plan. Leave smiley post it notes around your house to find and motivate you. Maybe hide a do 5 press up in your cookie cupboard so once you’ve opened it, you’ll realize you’ve been cheeky and must now face the consequences of them 5 press ups.

Fifth Sign: Comparing yourself to others.
If you feel self-conscious about your body and size around others or feel extremely jealous of other people who have lost weight, then it’s time for you to focus your energies on your own self-improvement. As you might guess, weight-loss isn’t just about choosing to eat right and exercise. Many times, it’s also about having the self-worth to make a change and believing that you deserve to do something positive for yourself!
Make yourself a priority:

Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone’s journey and circumstances are different. The next time you become envious or self-conscious, remind yourself that you deserve good things in life too. Weight loss isn’t a weakness, a desire to conform, or a sign that you’re not awesome just the way you are. Every person is worthy of love, respect and self-care—and maintaining a healthy weight is part of that.

Fad diets seduce us with their promised “drastic” results and implied ease and simplicity, but they’re rarely reasonable or even healthy.

Remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, and it could even be very harmful.

Tapeworm Diet

Tapeworm diet has reportedly been around since the dawn of the 20th century. Brave souls would swallow tapeworm cyst pills, so tapeworms would grow and mature inside their intestines, eating all food products until the dieter’s goal weight is reached. Tapeworms can grow pretty huge (30 feet) and can therefore cause a whole mess of other health issues, like diarrhea, vomiting, headaches and even epilepsy. This is an incredibly dangerous and unhealthy weight-loss option that could potentially be deadly, not only would this lead to serious nutrient deficiencies that can have lifelong complications, but you would regain the weight back as soon as the parasite is killed.

Hollywood Diet

Body “like a star.” The small selection of shakes and cookies for sale, on which you are to subside for 24 hours or more, will reportedly lead to a weight loss of two to nine pounds. Extreme low-calorie diets like this can be dangerous, especially when followed for more than a couple of days. This diet puts your body into starvation mode, and most of the weight loss you experience in the first few days will be water weight. Added potential side effects may include diarrhea, fatigue, constipation and nausea.

Baby Food Diet

This idea is to replace breakfast and lunch with tiny jarred rations of puréed food and then to eat a low-calorie dinner. Granted, it’s free of additives and preservatives, but this diet deprives you of the pleasures of eating real food and is not a good long-term approach to weight loss, following on that it’s much easier and more civilized to just up consumption of fruits and vegetables and decrease sodium content.

Feeding-Tube Diet

Yes, you read correctly a feeding tube. A “very low-calorie, protein- and fat-rich” solution with no carbs whatsoever is pumped through a tube the size of a strand of spaghetti that is inserted through your nose and into your stomach where it empties. Your body goes into ketosis, burning your own fat at a faster pace. This very low-calorie restricted plan is no more effective for short-term weight loss than just restricting your calorie intake of regularly consumed food. Aside from that, complications from this diet may include constipation, kidney stones, dehydration, dizziness and headaches, and, a more unhealthy relationship with food.

Lemonade Diet

The lemonade diet, has been around for a while and name-dropped by plenty of the Beyoncés of the world because it’s a ‘fast and easy’. As this miraculous elixir consists only of water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup, you’ll lose some water weight(but not for long). The likelihood is that you’ll gain all the weight back and more once you go back to eating solid food, and the problem is you may also have a harder time losing weight in the future, since such low-calorie diets cause you to lose muscle mass and decrease your metabolism.

Grapefruit Diet

Dating as far back as the 1930s, this diet still retains some level of popularity. If you eat a grapefruit before eating anything else, drink lots of water, cut out carbs and eat lean protein, you’ll burn more fat. Fans of this diet say if you do it for around 10 days, you can lose up to 10 pounds. It’s been suggested that eating grapefruit can help to slim the waistline and lower body weight, most likely due to the diuretic properties of grapefruit helping to shed water weight. In addition, the fruit makes a great high-volume, low-calorie option, helping to keep you full and encouraging less total calorie intake during the day.
